Turning 33

leaves

Last Friday was my 33rd birthday. It wasn’t the best birthday ever. The day was pretty stressful. We went to talk with the doctor about Drew’s diagnosis. I think that just kinda made the day difficult. Friday night the boys wanted to take to me Chick-Fil-A for my birthday so we did that. Love their peppermint shakes.

On Saturday Ben and I were able to get out for a date night which was nice. We went to Outback which is one of my favorite places. Sadly we left our gift card at home which was frustrating. After dinner we walked around a bit, went to a bookstore and went computer shopping. We really need a new computer and plan to use some of our tax refund to get one. I am just not sure what I want to get though. I need to do some more looking around. I would love a Mac but just can’t swing that right now. It was really nice to get out without the boys. Although we did talk about them a lot. We just can’t help it.

So I am 33 now. I feel pretty okay with that. I am pretty much doing what I wanted to do in life. When I was 20 I always said I wanted to have kids by 30. Here I am at 33, been married 9.5 years with three little boys. Although I never thought I would be an Army wife, I feel like I am right where I am supposed to be.

How about you? Do you feel like your age? Have you done everything you thought you would by the age you are now?

You are NOT turning 7

1 month oldHow are you turning 7?  How?  Didn’t we just bring you home?

Didn’t we just celebrate your first birthday?  Didn’t you just learn to walk? To talk?

Now you are almost 7.   I can’t believe it!  You were my first baby boy. When you were born, we became parents.  All of your firsts were our firsts too.  A lot of times I didn’t really know what I was doing.  It was all new to me.  But we seemed to have made it through those early years.

We moved to Germany when you were just 18 months old.  What an adventure that was!  You have gotten to see the world!  You have been to 11 countries and seen so many amazing things.  I hope you will be able to remember those years.

We have had challenges that we have had to overcome and some that we are still working on.  I love seeing how much you have grown and how far you have come.

Now you are making new friends and I feel like we have entered a new stage in your life.  You are now totally a school aged kid.  The preschool years are far behind us and so many great things are ahead for you.

You are a great big brother and I know your little brothers look up to you.  You are always such a great help with your baby brother and you and AJ are the best of friends.

Happy Birthday DW.  Your smile always warms my heart.

32

I am 32.  When you turn 30 it is a huge deal.  A new decade.  A new age group.  31 puts you into your 30s but 32?  32 doesn’t really mean a whole lot.

But then my dad reminded me that my mom was 32 when she had me. Interesting to think about.

Also I remembered that I met Ben when I was 22.  Can’t believe it has been almost 10 years since we met and started dating!  That is just amazing to me.

So today I start 32…with a loving husband and 3 sweet boys :)

Four Years Old

AJ will be 4 years old tomorrow!  I can’t believe it.  We had a small party for him on Sat and plan to have some cake and ice cream tomorrow night.  He is really into this turning 4 thing and being a “big boy.”  He tells me his “number is 4″ now.  And we have made some HUGE progress on potty stuff.  He is now pooping on the potty & we have moved to underwear.  He does need to be reminded to go but he is going which is awesome!

Right now he is totally into Mickey Mouse, Handy Manny and pretty much anything on Playhouse Disney.  Also loves to do arts and crafts, drawing and puzzles.

I am really excited about having a four year old again.  I really like the 4s more than the 3s :)

Happy 6th Birthday Little Boy

BG (24)DW was born at 7:39am on Sept 29th, 2004.  I went into labor the night before, well about 11:30pm.  Ben was sleeping and I wasn’t sure what was going on.  By about 2-3am we knew it was time to get to the birth center.  They checked me and I was at 4cm and that was when I realized we really were going to have a baby that day.  We walked around the parking lot for a bit to get labor moving and then I was able to get into the tub.  I really wanted to have a water birth.  Well my contractions came on very strong and one after another.   The midwife checked me and I was at 9 but I had to get out of that tub.  Just something about it annoyed me at that moment.  I got out, went to the bed and she checked me again.  I was complete!  The act of moving from the tub to the bed helped it move along.  I pushed for about 30 minutes and then he was born.  My husband, sister-in-law, Midwife and the owner of the birth center (another midwife who was also a family friend) were in the room with us.

Since most of Ben’s family lived in the same city they came to see us.  My mom had taken the first flight she could out of Southern California to come see us too.  She got in at about noon and got to meet her very first grandson hours after he was born.

It is amazing how well I remember that day.  I remember talking on my cell phone to my friends about the birth as the midwife stitched me up.  I remember the food I ordered, a mint chocolate chip shake.  I remember Ben and I sitting on the bed watching our little boy suck his finger.  I remember coming home at 4ish in the afternoon and working very hard to get him to breastfeed.  I remember camping out in the living room that first week or two.  I remember all of it.  There is just something so special about becoming a mom for the first time.  Memories I hope I never forget.

  1st Birthday BG (26)BG (27) BG (28) BG (29)

I look at him now and think 6!  Wow 6!  He has to hold up 2 hands to tell how old he is now.  He becomes more and more independent as the years go by.  He is learning to read & write.  He is so excited about having a baby brother and is such a sweet big brother to AJ (most of the time.)  20100922-IMG_6129

He loves his dinosaurs & other little animals.  He loves to play on the playground, with his little friends and watch Scooby Doo movies.  He is learning how to play the Wii and his speech just keeps getting better and better.

Happy Birthday little boy :)

Another Year Older

SeptSeptember 26, 2009-37

Well yesterday I turned 31.  The day was interesting.  In the morning I fell on my stairs and that was not fun.  I am ok but man I have a nasty bruise.  Ben got home with cake and a few small presents :)   I still get to pick something else out.  We had pizza & cake with the boys.  Then tonight he made a yummy steak dinner :)

I also did my taxes :)

I was so glad Ben was home for my birthday this year :)

My little boys sang me Happy Birthday too :)
