Newport Beach, California

In June my mom was diagnosed with GBS.  Guillain–Barré syndrome which is usually very treatable although frustrating. She started to get better but then it came back.  Once it came back we decided that it might be a good idea for me to go out there to help with whatever was needed. I was able to get away and was in California from August 11th-21st. I did have to work from California so between that and helping my mom there wasn’t too much time for sightseeing which was fine. I did get to see a few friends as well as my brother and sister-in-law. On that Sunday we spent all day together and went down to Newport Beach.

While I was there the GBS came back again and she was then diagnosed with the chronic version of it. Right now she is getting weekly in home treatments which we are hoping will help her. We are waiting to see if she will have a full recovery.

Balboa Bar…Yum! My brother tried one and then goes, “Oh ya! Now I remember eating these when I was young.” Totally worth all the calories.

Love walking along all these homes!

As I headed back to Tennessee I felt a sense of sadness. I am not sure what is happening with my mom and I hate being so far away.

Having a hard time with that lately. I wish we could move back but it just isn’t possible right now.

  1. Hi Julie,
I will keep your mom in my prayers. My grandpa had GBS and he made a full recovery from it after being hospitalized in ICU for several months. He was in his late 80s. Your mom is much younger and medicine has improved so much in the last 10 years since my grandfather had it. I pray that she will make a full recovery. Karen
