I got my first SLR camera when I was 12. It was my dad’s camera and I was taking a class. I loved it! I love taking the photos but I also loved the darkroom part of it. I took classes in high school and a few in college. This was before digital was even an option for most people.
I got married and stopped using it for some reason. Then we got a point and shoot digital camera a few months after our wedding. It wasn’t that great but I loved not having to develop film and not having so many photos printed that I didn’t like.
I had kids and then it was 2008. We were in the PX. We had a little bit of extra money at the time. In the last year I had started getting back into photography. I was bored and wanted something fun to do. I did what I could with my point and shoot but now it was time for my first DSLR so I got a Canon Rebel XSI and it was great!
In 2009 when I was in California for the summer I got a Canon 50D. Amazing camera! I told Ben I wasn’t going to upgrade for five years thinking that would be hard to do. However, I am still really happy with my camera. I have a wish list. I would love to upgrade eventually, to a camera with a video camera and I would love a new lens, thinking the 35mm would be perfect. But that will have to wait.
We went to Garmich right after I got the DSLR in 2008 and I had a ton of fun shooting photos there. I got my passion back and dove right in. I think from 2008-2010 I took photos every single day. I was home with the boys so I would usually do a mini photo shoot everyday. Sometimes at home, other times at the park or on a walk.
Then we moved back to the US, I got pregnant and I got out of the habit of it. Then I got my first smart phone and you know how it goes. It is so much easier to take photos with the phone then the big camera. However I did take a lot of baby photos of Josh. I think he has more baby photos than the other two combined!
Once I started working full-time from home I felt like I didn’t have as much time to edit the photos anymore. I am still in June! I have a lot of catching up to do. I am trying to take my big camera when we go places. It fits in my purse which is nice.
I am about 6 years behind on my scrapbooking as well. That is always on the to-do list but never gets done. So really, I don’t know what I am going to do with all the photos I have taken over the years. I need to figure out something.
Here are a few from this year that I have saved in a folder to eventually upload on Flickr….I used to do that everyday too. Sigh. I really need to get back into it.
Do you have a DSLR? Do you use it a lot? Do you just love photography too?
