Steel Magnolias on Lifetime Tv

September 17, 2012 by Julie 3 Comments

Steel Magnolias

Did you know that Lifetime Television is about to release a new version of Steel Magnolias? I was super excited to hear this as I am a fan of the original with Julia Roberts. I was given the opportunity to watch the movie and Ben and I did so last weekend. After we watched the new version we decided to watch the older version because it had been a while since I had seen it. Here is some information on the new one which will air Sunday October 7th, at 9pm/8pm Central on Lifetime.

ALL-STAR CAST FEATURES QUEEN LATIFAH,
PHYLICIA RASHAD, ADEPERO ODUYE, CONDOLA RASHAD
WITH JILL SCOTT AND ALFRE WOODARD
Film Executive Produced By Award Winning Duo CRAIG ZADAN and NEIL MERON
QUEEN LATIFAH, SHAKIM COMPERE and SHELBY STONE Also Executive Produce
Film Directed By KENNY LEON

Steel Magnolias chronicles the lives and friendship of six women in Louisiana.  Supporting each other through their triumphs ad tragedies, they congregate at Truvy’s beauty shop to ponder the mysteries of life and death, husbands and children – and hair and nails – all the important topics that truly unite and celebrate women.

Queen Latfiah will play “M’Lynn,” Phylicia Rashad as “Clairee,” Adepero Oduye as “Annelle,” Condola Rashad as “Shelby, ” Jill Scott as “Truvy” and Alfre Woodard as “Ouiser.”

My Thoughts: I thought it was great! It truly was an updated version of the original. Most of the dialog is the same and the new actors did a great job of becoming the original characters. They did update things for the times. The original was in the 1980s so instead of talking about a VCR they would mention a PlayStation. Although they all did a wonderful job I especially loved Queen Latifah’s role as M’Lynn. She brought all the right emotion to her role.

What I love about Steel Magnolias is that it will make you laugh and it will make you cry. This movie didn’t disappoint.

So go now and set your DVRs if you have one. You don’t want to miss this!

Leading Lady Bra Review

June 25, 2012 by Julie 1 Comment

Leading Lady is a premiere intimate apparel company dedicated to creating comfortably functional, remarkably affordable, stylish and easy-to-wear bras, camis and sleepwear. A family owned and operated business, Leading Lady has been expertly tailoring nursing and full figure bras for top brands and retailers across North America for more than 70 years. Leading Lady’s comprehensive line of nursing and full figure intimates – including sexy stretch lace wire-free and underwire bras, supportive and seamless sport and yoga bras, and cozy sleep and leisure bras – can be purchased directly on LeadingLady.com.

Leading Lady is proud to celebrate “Leading Ladies” everywhere through its products, programs and philanthropic activities. Leading Lady is committed to supporting military families, as well as a variety of organizations and issues relevant to women across the country. Follow Leading Lady on Facebook, Twitter and Google+.

I have always struggled with finding good yet pretty bras for my size. Usually if I am in a store and see some cute bras they either don’t have my size or are not comfortable at all. It is almost like the bra manufactures don’t like larger sizes for some reason. This is why I was excited to do a bra review for Leading Lady. I was able to chose two bras to try. I decided on the Molded Padded Seamless Underwire Full Figure Bra in “Deep Claret” and the Lace Cup Underwire Full Figure Bra.

Leading Lady Bra

Leading Lady BraI decided to go with my normal size, 40D and received my bras in just a few days.  After wearing both bras a few times I have to say I am in LOVE with these bras.  I love that I now have a pretty lace bra that fits and is comfortable for me.  I also love the bright color of the Molded one and would love to order a few more in other colors.  Not everone is a fan of underwire and Leading Lady also has the wire-free options which is nice.  If you don’t know your size there is a great calculator on the site.

Leading Lady Military Friends and Family

The Leading Lady Military Friends & Family discount code is MBLOG20 and offers 20% off site-wide July 1-7. (The code cannot be combined with any other offer.)

If you are bigger on top like I am or are in need of nursing bras, I would really suggest checking out Leading Lady 🙂  I know I will be ordering from them again in the future.

 * Leading Lady provided me with two bras for review and all options about product are my own!

Dr. Bizer’s Vision World Value Vision Visit and Review

May 9, 2012 by Julie 5 Comments

Dr. Bizer
I wear glasses. I use to wear contacts but the last couple years glasses just seemed to work better for me. I was pretty excited to get an email from Dr. Bizer’s Vision World about going in for an eye exam and receiving a pair of glasses for a review. It was actually time for me to go in for an eye exam but I was being a little lazy about making the appointment.

Dr. Bizer

I visited Doctor’s Value Vision in our local mall here in Clarksville. When I walked in I was welcomed and asked to sign in. I didn’t have to wait too long before they took me to a side room to blow the air in my eyes to check for Glaucoma. Pretty much what I have been used to in an eye exam. I then waited a few more minutes before I went into the room with the Eye Doctor. She was very nice and had me do all the standard testing that they do. Asking me what is more clear, A or B and all of that type of stuff. It seemed to go pretty quickly. After all the testing was done she was very good about explaining how my eyes were doing and what she suggested I should do about getting contacts. She dilated my eyes, gave me a prescription and then I was introduced to the lady that would help me pick out my glasses.

Dr. Bizer

When it comes to picking glasses I can be pretty indecisive about it. I usually want a fun pair but something different from what I had before. The lady showed me a bunch of different glasses after I told her what I was looking for. After trying on a lot of pairs I finally found my perfect pair of glasses. The lady that was helping me also made sure that I ordered the right kind of glasses. My new ones will help when I am on the computer and when I drive at night. I explained to her that it was a little scary driving at night because the lights had a glow to them. I shouldn’t have that problem with these new glasses. I was also impressed by their selection. There were a lot of glasses to chose from which is nice for me because I am picky.

Dr. Bizer

It took two weeks but I was able to pick up my glasses today! I am very happy with them. I also felt like if I have an issue with them, I can go back and they will help me out. I am still debating on contacts. I am sure I will eventually get them again but for now I am happy with my glasses. I was really impressed with the staff and my experience at Dr. Bizer’s. I enjoyed my experience very much and found them to be very helpful.

You can visit them on Facebook-https://www.facebook.com/DrBizersVisionWorld

Twitter -https://twitter.com/#!/DrMarkLynn

and find an office in your area here… http://www.drbizersvisionworld.com

And for my Military readers, they do accept Tricare 🙂

I was provided an eye exam and glasses in exchange for this post. This review and opinions mentioned in it are all my own.

Cooper and Me and the Military book review and giveaway

February 9, 2012 by Julie 3 Comments

Cooper and Me and the Military

Raising children in a Military family has its challenges. It is nice to come across anything that can help in that journey. Books are a great resource for children in the Military. I was given the book Cooper and Me and the Military by Monique and Alexa Peters to review.

Cooper and Me is a children’s book series was started by a young girl, Alexa Peters (now 13), who has always loved to write stories and draw pictures about her experiences as a means of expressing her feelings. Cooper and Me grew out of Alexa’s gift for storytelling and compassion for other kids. The mission of Cooper and Me is to both entertain young children and help them gain emotional resilience as they navigate the challenges of everyday living.

Alexa Peters (age 13) was inspired to write a story about family friends who were separated by deployment. She wanted to write this book to help kids process their feelings about loved ones being away from home and honor those in service.
Overview:
Meet Trooper, Cooper’s best friend, and learn how he was adopted by Gracie and Joe and their parents, who both serve in the military. Find out how this family stays close despite being separated.
A must-read during patriotic holidays and for anyone with friends and family in the military, this book helps children know, that even when loved ones aren’t with us, they still love us and think about us. This book, along with all the other books in the Cooper and Me series, includes these interactive features:
• A Special Memory Creation
• Life Lesson
• Connections
• Learning Together
In addition to a fun adventure, each Cooper and Me story teaches an important Life Lesson and features interactive materials at the back of the book to drive the message home. Included are activities that help children name and process their own feelings about what they’ve read.
Julie’s thoughts on the book:
As soon as I took the book out of the mailer I knew I was going to love it. The cover is bright and has some pretty cool illustrations on it. The story is interesting and I think a lot of Military children can relate to it. My son said it was “cute” and enjoyed it. I also really liked that at the end of the book there were questions I could ask my son about it. One of them was “Have you ever missed someone? How does that feel?” I thought it was a great way to connect with your children through the book.
I know we plan to check out other books in the Cooper and Me series!

Empire Covers Car Cover Review

October 11, 2011 by Julie 4 Comments

Product Review DI was contacted by Melissa at Empire Covers to do a review of one of their products.  Empire Covers has a nice selection of covers for all types of needs.  They have Car Covers as well as other types of Vehicle Covers, Boat Covers, Bike Covers, Sports Covers and RV Covers.  They also carry a selection of car accessories.

I decided to go with a car cover.  As you know we just moved into our new house.  We have a garage that we would love to use for a car but not sure that can happen before winter gets here.   Since my husband is the one that has to get out of the house early, we thought a cover for his car would be best.  When you get to the site you can search for car covers based on your car’s make, model and year.  This is to ensure you get the exact cover for your car.

Empire Car CoversI ended up with the Titan Quatro 4L Car Cover which is supposed to be great for all types of weather.  Snow, rain, sun and dust. The cover comes all folded up and it is pretty easy to put on your car.  There is even a great video to show you how to do it on their site.  I would say it took me about two minutes to put it on, 30 seconds to take it off.

The material feels pretty strong to me and I found the color to be nice.  I kept it on overnight and although we didn’t have any rain or snow, it did keep the dew off of the car.

I think this will be great for the icy and snowy mornings we might get this winter.

Right now they are having a fall sale.  Enter the code: SPT10 for 10% off.

You can find Empire Covers at Twitter as well.

Valentine’s Day Cards at Tiny Prints

February 2, 2011 by Julie Leave a Comment

I was contacted by Tiny Prints to do a review of their Valentine’s Day Cards 🙂

I ended up picking out 3 different cards.  1 for the baby and 2 for the older boys.

They are pretty cute!  I love the size too.  3.50 x 2.50 inches.  They are all customizable.  I could have put pictures in all 3 but just added one to Joshua’s card.  The ordering process is easy and a lot of fun.  And they make sure that you are getting exactly what you ordered.  I even got a call to double check a line on one of my cards.

They have so many cool designs to choose from.  It was hard to decide.  If you still need some Valentine’s cards, go check out Tiny Prints.  They are awesome 🙂

I received a credit for cards at Tiny Prints in exchange for this review!

CSN Stores Review Lipper International Table and Chair Set

January 3, 2011 by Julie Leave a Comment

I was contacted by CSNstores to do another review for them.  This time I picked the Lipper International Table and Chair Set in green.

I had been wanting to get a little table and chair set for the boys for while now.  When I saw this one on the website I thought it would be perfect.  The boys love it!  I love it!  It is such a pretty green and together with the white makes it look really nice.  You can also get it in blue and pink.

The table dimensions are 18.75″ H x 22″ W x 20.5″ D and chairs are 22.875″ H x 10.5″ W x 10.75″ D

My husband put it together and said it was pretty easy to do so.

There was free shipping on this item and I got it a few weeks earlier than they first told me I would so that was really nice.  About a week after I ordered it.

Once again, another happy experience with CSNstores.

I was provided a $65 credit for CSNstores in return for this honest review.

Chili’s Restaurant

I was recently contacted by Chili’s Restaurant to do a review & then giveaway a gift card on my blog.

We were able to go to Chili’s last weekend.  What a fun start to Ben’s Christmas break!

Ben and I ordered off the “2 for 20″ menu!”  Have you heard of it?  You pay $20 and you get 1 appetizer and 2 entrées. You do have to order off the list they have.

We went with the Chips & Salsa for the appetizer.  Then Ben got the Cajun Chicken Pasta and I went with the Chicken Fajitas.  It was SO good.  Writing this post makes me want to go back and have some more!  Ben also enjoyed his pasta.  The amount of food we got was great.  I was very happy with it all.
