Intro To Army Life by Allison Mewes Book Review

I was happy to receive the book Intro to Army Life by Allison Mewes for review.
ABOUT THE BOOK:
Intro to Army Life: A Handbook for Spouses and Significant Others Entering the Army Lifestyle was created to encourage, educate and inspire those entering the army culture. No one hands you a guidebook when you enter Army life; you either have to learn the hard way or stumble upon resources on your own…until now. Intro to Army Life gives you the tools and resources necessary to make your transition into the Army lifestyle easier, less stressful and more fun. You don’t have to learn the hard way—all the information you need is here, ready to help you make the transition. Along with engaging personal narrative and stories, Intro to Army Life includes:
• Army hierarchy and social structure
• 15 tips for dealing with a deployment
• Perks of a military ID
• Top 25 Army acronyms
• Military discounts and how to find them
• Top 10 resources for military children
• Fun facts, such as where the term “military brat” originated
• …and much more!
Intro to Army Life is an excellent resource for the individual reader or for companies promoting educational resources for the U.S. Army.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Allison Mewes became an army spouse one week before her husband left for a three-week Annual Training and then deployed for a year to the Middle East. While he was away, she wrote this book. Her experiences as a newlywed entering the army lifestyle, along with the humorous things that happened along the way, inspired her to help other military spouses and significant others make the transition into army life.
My Thoughts: I really wish I had gotten this book when Ben first joined the Army. In fact, if I ever hear about a friend about to become an Army spouse I am going to send a copy to her. This book is perfect because it tells you what you need to know without making it too complicated. She breaks down everything into basic chapters. This is great when you read it the first time and great to use as a reference for later on. She has included a ton of resources that would be very important for an Army spouse to have. I really liked seeing the 10 resources for children especially. That information is so important. I also really liked the pictures of the uniform describing what everything means. This is going to be a great book to have for reference. I may have been an Army wife for 6.5 years now but there are still situations and parts of Army life I still don’t know about. So if you are new the Army or even if you are a seasoned spouse, this would be a great book to have on your bookshelf.
And here is a link to the blog tour!
Here is the author’s website and you can find the book on Amazon!

Cooper and Me and the Military book review and giveaway
Raising children in a Military family has its challenges. It is nice to come across anything that can help in that journey. Books are a great resource for children in the Military. I was given the book Cooper and Me and the Military by Monique and Alexa Peters to review.
Cooper and Me is a children’s book series was started by a young girl, Alexa Peters (now 13), who has always loved to write stories and draw pictures about her experiences as a means of expressing her feelings. Cooper and Me grew out of Alexa’s gift for storytelling and compassion for other kids. The mission of Cooper and Me is to both entertain young children and help them gain emotional resilience as they navigate the challenges of everyday living.
GlassesUSA
Do you wear glasses? I do. I also have contacts but usually wear my glasses. I like to have more than one pair so that I can wear different glasses when I feel like it. I have bought glasses in a few different brick and mortar stores but I find them pretty expensive. I don’t want to have to spend that much every year. That is why I was glad to hear about GlassesUSA.com. They are affordable and have a great selection to choose from.
When it comes to picking out new eyeglasses, I look at the price, the look and the feel. I don’t want something too expensive but I want my glasses to be cute and attractive. I usually buy glasses that are green, purple or blue in color. At GlassessUSA.com you can find a great pair for a great price. They have a lot of different looks for whatever your style might be. They also have a virtual mirror where you can upload a picture of yourself and virtually try on the glasses. How convenient is that?
Here are a couple of pairs of Prescription glasses I think look pretty nice:

Empire Covers Car Cover Review
I was contacted by Melissa at Empire Covers to do a review of one of their products. Empire Covers has a nice selection of covers for all types of needs. They have Car Covers as well as other types of Vehicle Covers, Boat Covers, Bike Covers, Sports Covers and RV Covers. They also carry a selection of car accessories.
I decided to go with a car cover. As you know we just moved into our new house. We have a garage that we would love to use for a car but not sure that can happen before winter gets here. Since my husband is the one that has to get out of the house early, we thought a cover for his car would be best. When you get to the site you can search for car covers based on your car’s make, model and year. This is to ensure you get the exact cover for your car.
I ended up with the Titan Quatro 4L Car Cover which is supposed to be great for all types of weather. Snow, rain, sun and dust. The cover comes all folded up and it is pretty easy to put on your car. There is even a great video to show you how to do it on their site. I would say it took me about two minutes to put it on, 30 seconds to take it off.
The material feels pretty strong to me and I found the color to be nice. I kept it on overnight and although we didn’t have any rain or snow, it did keep the dew off of the car.
I think this will be great for the icy and snowy mornings we might get this winter.
Right now they are having a fall sale. Enter the code: SPT10 for 10% off.
You can find Empire Covers at Twitter as well.
Faith Deployed…Again Review and Giveaway
A few years ago I read Faith Deployed and just loved the book! It was the perfect thing to read during our deployment. So when I heard Jocelyn Green was going to come out with another one I was very excited about it! I am also happy to take part in the Faith Deployed…Again Blog Tour that is taking place this week.
This book is set up the same way as the first one. Each devotion starts with a bible verse and after is a question and a prayer having to do with the devotion.
This book is broken down into eight different sections.
- Basic Training: Guiding Principles for Military Living
- Intimate Allies: Protecting Your Military Marriage
- Tour of Duty: Overcoming Deployments and Other Separations
- Soul Armor: Guarding against Spiritual Attacks
- Stationed in Christ: Dwelling in the Lord, Near and Far
- In God’s Service: Living for the Lord
- Home Front Hope: Moving Forward in God’s Strength
- For Blue Star Moms: Trusting God with Your Service Member
My favorite section was “Stationed in Christ: Dwelling in the Lord, Near and Far.” Having lived in Germany for four years I could relate to the devotionals about being stationed overseas or in a far off place. I also loved that there is a chapter for the moms of our service members.
What I like most about this book is that you don’t have to read it all the way through. You can keep it on your nightstand and read a different devotion each night. Or if you are struggling with different issues you will probably be able to find a devotion that can help.
How would you like to win a copy of this awesome book? Jocelyn Green has given me an extra copy to give away to one of my readers 🙂
The giveaway will start today and end on Tuesday September 13, 2011.
